Ventilation Cleaning

Good air hygiene is essential to the health and well-being of staff and visitors to your commercial premises. Companies also have a legal requirement to comply with Air Hygiene regulations.

Our specialist cleaners are accredited and certified by NDCA National Duct Cleaning Academy. We can offer a full cleaning and maintenance service to all ventilation systems to British Standards.

Ventilation Duct Cleaning must be carried out at least once every two years to fulfil legal requirements and to maintain a safe and healthy environment. W A Wootton not only provide a full Ductwork Cleaning service including inspections and filter cleaning to ensure maximum safety and compliance for your building but are also fully trained members of the National Association of Air Duct cleaners UK. NAADUK is the first register for qualified trained duct cleaners, i.e. in Kitchen Extract TR19 standards and Air Ducts to BS15780, who have been taught by an Accredited Training provider in the UK.

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) regulations building owners and managers have a legal responsibility / duty to make sure that enclosed workplaces are ventilated with fresh, purified air through a mechanical system it must be cleaned, maintained and thoroughly inspected at regular intervals. Good records need to be kept showing events or objects that prove something that the ductwork complies with guidelines and regulations.

Our ventilation cleaning service is intended to help those capable to meet their legitimate obligations and practice their ‘duty of care’. As an initial step, we do an overview of your Ventilation system and give a definite appraisal of hazards, highlighting issues or deformities that effect on the general cleanliness of the Ventilation framework and benchmarking any aggregated contamination inside the sysytem against current industry guidelines set around Industry Standard of Excellence HVCA TR19 and CIBSE TM26. Testing and independent lab reports will identify and indicate further requirements that would need to occur to reach the specified requirements for cleanliness.

There is impressive proof to demonstrate that uncleaned ventilation ductwork can help the advancement and spread of HCAI. Temperature and moistness conditions regularly found in Ventilation systems, united to the nearness of organic matter including human hair and skin particles, give high chances to bugs like MRSA and C. diff. to flourish and to be dispersed. Ventilation frameworks act both as a support for, and disseminator of exceptionally hurtful microscopic organisms. Simply enhancing system filtration is occasionally a successful measure to handle this issue. Just careful framework cleaning, associated to better filtration materials, can give a successful commitment to the fight to combat contamination.

Where there is, evidence resulting that a general ventilation ductwork system needs Treatment we will draw up an arrangement of recommendations with costs highlighting specific issues, for example, advising on and installation of access panels for reaching inaccessible areas.  Thorough testing and post clean reports. The cleaning methods will be carried out with minimum disruption and in accordance to industry standards using the most advanced techniques guided by National Association Air duct cleaners UK.

Throughout a building refurb or new build the ventilation system is one of the first interior specifics that is installed or modified and during the process can easily become contaminated by other trades working within the project such as drilling carpentry debris and plaster dust. Regulations requirements by the CDM inform that a system to be clean before the official handover to the client. It is also recommended that it the system is cleaned before balancing and commissioning. If this is not done, then the system may occur irregularities during balancing not to mention health implications.

Fire Damper Testing and inspection

Fire and smoke dampers are installed in ductwork where it passes through a fire compartment barrier. They are designed to automatically shut when a specified temperature or fire/smoke condition is present. preventing the spread of fire and smoke throughout the rest of the building.

Fire dampers are installed in all types of environments Offices, Hospitals schools etc. In all situations, there functions are the same to protect the occupants from fire and smoke.

Regularly scheduled fire damper inspections are a critical part of fire safety maintenance plans. Regular testing and inspections ensure that dampers work correctly. Periodic smoke damper and fire damper inspections are required by the Regulatory Fire Safety Order.

Fire dampers therefore are a vitally important part of any ventilation system and need to be part of a fire damper maintenance program to ensure correct operation. The BS9999 Fire Damper Regulations, specifies Arrangements should be made for all fire dampers to be tested by a competent person on completion of installation and at regular intervals not exceeding 2 years, and to be repaired or replaced immediately if found to be faulty.

Spring operated fire dampers should be tested annually and fire dampers situated in dust laden and similar atmospheres should be tested much more frequently, at periods to suit the degree of pollution.” HTM03-1 also calls for fire dampers in hospitals to be tested every 12 months. Testing will comply with regulations and consists of a visual inspection and drop test ensuring that all mechanics are all in working order. Photographic evidence and reporting is crucial to the process.

Kitchen Canopies and related ductwork can pose a Fire Risk. The grease that builds up in the system is a potential fuel for a fire that could spread throughout other areas of the building.

The Regulation EC NO. 852/2004 (The Law) specifies that all extract and supply to food preparation areas are cleaned. Failure to do so may result in closure by the Environmental Officer.

Frequency of testing is dependent on usage. The Fire Safety Order also informs and requires the person(s) responsible management of public catering facilities to ensure the Grease Extract Ventilation System is included in the Fire Risk Assessment and action taken to eliminate any potential risk to building occupants from potentially fire hazardous grease deposits in the ducting

Compliance of the cleaning methods are shown within the Guidelines of cleaning Kitchen Extraction Systems TR19 in which W A Wootton adhere too. If the kitchen ductwork is not cleaned within frequency guidelines basis this would invalidate your buildings insurance cover.

It is a fact there are many cases where insurance companies have declined fire claims where people have not complied with the TR19 on their buildings insurance policies regarding regular cleaning of the kitchen extract systems.

At W A Wootton we can provide you with up to date regulatory advice when it comes to carrying out kitchen ductwork cleaning that will comply with the Law. A full survey would need to be carried out to asses’ full accessibility throughout system.

If not, we would need to install access panels. When we complete your cleaning, you will be given a certificate which you will need to keep for insurance purposes. All work is carried out by trained professional members of the National Association of Air Duct Cleaners UK

It’s nonabrasive cleaning nature and environmental nature mean it is suitable for working on listed buildings, monument cleaning and buildings of historical importance.

Steam cleaning is like pressure washing and jet washing but offers improved cleaning results on most types of masonry. Steam cleaning is generally referred to as being nonabrasive cleaning.
